Teen event
     Teens are invited to "Teens on Spring Break" on Monday, March 29, from 7 to 10 p.m., in the Pool View Room at the Lodge. The event is co-sponsored by the Jr. Women's Club and the Street Carts of Canyon Lake. Activities will include dancing, food and an opportunity to "hang out" with friends. There is a $5 entry fee. Tennis open play
     The Tennis Club invites members of the community to come out for Open Play on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8 a.m.ÊIt is open to all levels of players and is a great way to meet other players without committing to a schedule. Casino bus trip
     The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club has planned a bus trip to Pechanga Casino on Monday, March 22, as a club fundraiser. The donation is $15. The casino will give each passenger a $10 voucher upon arrival for use in the casino. The bus will leave the Lodge parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and return from Pechanga at approximately 2:30 p.m.
     Those with current Pechanga Casino cards should have their number available when making reservations. The Woman’s Club invites all residents and their guests to sign up and join the fun. For reservations, contact Joanna Spiller at 244-1553 as soon as possible.

Easter Carnival
     The Jr. Women’s Club is preparing for its annual Easter Carnival on Saturday, April 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The egg hunt will begin at 10: 30 a.m. The event includes such activities as carnival style games, crafts, temporary tattoos, a bounce house, and Easter Bunny photos. Parents can shop at the various vendor booths while their children play. Vendor spaces are still available. For more information, contact Natalie Mathis at 562-449-5511.

Lioness Bingo
     The Canyon Lake Lioness Club holds Bingo every first and third Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room (downstairs at City Hall). Games are priced at $20 for a 12-sheet set and $10 for a six-sheet set. Two 50/50 games are played for $1 each or six for $5. Refreshments are provided for a nominal donation. All proceeds from the games are donated to various charities endorsed by Lions Club International as well as helping organizations in the community.
     Note: Bingo will not be held on Easter Sunday, April 4.

JDRF Walk
     The Inland Empire Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 5K Walk will be held at Storm Stadium on March 13. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.

Titan rummage sale
     The Temescal Canyon High School Girls Softball team is holding a rummage sale on Sunday, March 14, from 9 to 2 p.m. at Storm Stadium’s Marketplace. The team is raising funds to offset the cost of getting new uniforms for the program. Residents are invited to come to the sale and help them achieve their goal. To donate items, bring them to the stadium starting at 7 a.m. on the day of the sale. For more information, call John Eccles at 244-1291.

Pancake breakfast
     The local Sea Scout Ship 39 is hosting a pancake breakfast at the Farmers’ Market on Sunday, March 14. Breakfast items will be pancakes, sausage, homemade cinnamon buns, as well as juice, tea and hot mocha. A Pampered Chef fundraiser also will be held to benefit the organization, which is raising funds for operating needs, education, maritime training and future events. Sea Scouts is a coed organization governed by Boy Scouts of America for ages 14 to 20 years. Angel Food Ministries
     Canyon Lake Community Church is the local distribution site for Angel Food Ministries, which offers families and seniors pre-ordered food at an affordable cost. 'Footloose' talent competition

Cheer Spring Fling
     The 2nd annual Spring Fling at the Lake Elsinore Marketplace will be held on Saturday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include performances by Temescal Canyon High School Cheerleaders, an Easter egg hunt, face painting, music, entertainment, bounce house pictures with the ~
     Easter Bunny for $5, plus more.Ê
     Lake Elsinore Marketplace (Costco/Lowe's shopping plaza) is located off the 15 Freeway and Central. The event will be located in the Bed, Bath & Beyond parking lot.

Cheer Spirit Camp
     Temescal High School Cheer will be hosting a Spirit Camp for youth in grades K to 11 in the school gymnasium on Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Softball poker fundraiser
     The Temescal Canyon High School Girls Softball team is holding a Poker Night to raise funds to offset the cost of new uniforms. The event will be held at Trevi Entertainment Center on Saturday, March 20, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $60 cash at the door. Table sponsors are available. Speaker available
     Community organizations, clubs or those interested in volunteer opportunities are invited to contact resident Van Robinson, who is available to speak and provide education about Meadowbrook Animal Sanctuary and Haven (MASH), located off Highway 74 in Lake Elsinore. The sanctuary is home to more than 125 animals that have been rescued by the organization. For more information, contact Van at 800-950-2444.

Spring Swing
     The Lake Elsinore Storm will host a Spring Swing on Saturday, March 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Diamond. Admission is free for guests of all ages.
     Festivities will include free Kids Fun Zone area, featuring bounce houses, jolly jumps and inflatables for the young ones. Baseball fans of all ages can take a behind-the-scenes tour of the ballpark and batting practice under the lights, facilitated by Frozen Ropes Baseball and Softball Training Center. Fans can get their picture taken with Storm mascot, Thunder, and also win prizes, giveaways and a chance to get lucky at The Diamond.

Boat Safety classes
     The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will present a boating safety class in Lake Elsinore on Sunday, March 21, at 8 a.m. The one-day class is a full eight hours encompassing all the basics of safe boating and meets court requirements for boaters with moving violations on the water. The cost is $75. The classes are taught by Peter Dawson, Coxswain, USCGAUX, who is 100-ton certified and has 58 years of boating experience. For reservations call 202-1584.

Prayer Breakfast
     The 9th annual Lake Elsinore Mayor’s Breakfast will be held on Thursday, April 1. Doors open at 7 a.m. with breakfast at 8 a.m. Dr. Vick Knight, author-educator and member of the Riverside County Board of Education, will be the keynote speaker. The subject will be the title of his 20th book, “My Word!”
     The event will be held at Lakeside High School and will include breakfast, spiritual uplifting, music and networking. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 751-7053. The cost is $20 for individual tickets or $120 for a table of seven and is tax deductible. Sponsorships are available.

Blood drive
     The Valley blood services Bloodmobile will be at the Canyon Hills Marketplace on Saturday, April 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call 800-479-3902.

Caregiver support group
     The Caregivers Connection support group is for caregivers and their patients and meets at Canyon Lake Community Church on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in rooms C5 and C6. Michelle’s Place
     Michelle’s Place, a women’s breast cancer resource center, is hosting a free educational seminar by My Pink Image on breast thermography on Wednesday, March 31, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Breast thermography increases early detection, promotes prevention and is non-invasive, no-contact, no radiation, pain-free screening procedure that is safe for all women.      Michelle’s Place will hold its Spring Fling event on Friday, April 30, from 5 to 10 p.m. at Oak Meadows in Temecula. The cost is $60 per person or $450 for a table of eight. Clothing wanted
     A couple in Canyon Lake regularly makes deliveries of food and clothing to the Riverside City Mission, where the needs of the hungry and homeless are growing dramatically. Donations can be dropped off at the Coldwell Banker office in the Towne Center, 31620 Railroad Canyon Rd.

Alcoholics Anonymous
     Temecula Valley Alcoholics Anonymous holds meetings in most nearby cities. The primary purpose is to help members achieve sobriety. For more information, visit www.temeculacentraloffice.org or call 695-1535.
     Free tax preparation The AARP tax aid volunteers will be available to assist taxpayers with low and middle income, with special attention to those 60 years and older; however, the free service is not limited to seniors. Sports offered
     Cornerstone Church in Wildomar offers a variety of sports weekly for ages 16 and up and any skill level. Billiards group
     The Ladies and Gents Billiards Group (LAGS) is looking for new members and/or substitutes. Grief support groups
     The GriefShare recovery seminar and support group meets at Grace Church each Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. The church is located at 29720 Goetz Rd. in Quail Valley. The seminar is led by Pastor Robert Butler and runs for 13 weeks. GriefShare features nationally recognized experts on grief and recovery topics. Pet Preparedness
     The Canyon Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee is in need of donations of pet supplies to keep in storage in the event of a disaster affecting the community. If the need arises to open a Red Cross shelter, there will be a need to house Canyon Lake pets, too, according to CLEP Director Nancy Carroll.
     There is a need for wire enclosures, leashes, collars, food and water dishes and toys, as well as clean blankets and small bathroom type rugs for bedding. For pick-up or directions for drop-off, call Ellen Dyer at 244-7763 or Nancy Carroll at 244-8230.

Free Fax Friday
     Debby Gagnon of Pack, Wrap and Post in the Canyon Lake Towne Center says she would like to help those who are currently seeking employment during these tough economic times by offering free use of the fax machine for the purpose of sending out resumes. Anyone interested in taking advantage of this offer is invited to stop by Pack, Wrap and Post on Fridays; no appointment is necessary. Debby says she will offer the service as long as she is able to do so.

Hospital volunteers needed
     Menifee Valley Medical Center is seeking volunteers. Only four hours of volunteer service per week qualifies one as an active member of the hospital volunteer team. No experience is necessary; training will be provided. The minimum age for hospital volunteers is 16 years old. For more information call 679-8888, ext. 7254 or 925-6389.

Senior softball
     Softball players 55 and older are needed for a senior men’s league in Menifee. The league plays on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Wheatfield Park, next to the Menifee campus of Mt. San Jacinto Community College. For more information, call Ed Hustead at 679-8626.

Cruise Night

Computer Club
     The Computer Club of Menifee Valley welcomes all who have an interest in computers. It meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month and offer presentations, guest speakers, question and answer sessions, a computer lab and computer classes. Child advocates needed
     The local organization of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children is seeking volunteers for its program. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. No special education or background is needed – just a desire to help abused and neglected children. Volunteers must pass a background check, followed by a 30-hour training course. Thank the troops
     Xerox Corporation has created a simple way for citizens to thank military personnel overseas at www.letssaythanks.com. The sender selects a design and message, which is then personalized with the sender’s name and town. Xerox then prints and sends a postcard to a member of the military stationed overseas. It only takes a few minutes to send a postcard and say thanks.

Donate a mammogram
     The Breast Cancer website invites people to click on its site daily so it can meet its quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to the site, www.thebreastcancersite.com and click on “donating a mammogram” for free (pink window in the middle). This doesn’t cost one thing. Corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.
