The group has competed across Southern California at various mainstream band association competitions, including the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association (SCBOA) competition, in which it earned several first-place finishes and a couple of second-place finishes. Earning total scores in the top 10 percent of the season, the Titan Thunder Regiment has become eligible to compete in the state championship tournament tomorrow, December 6. “Temescal Canyon High School Principal Errol Garnett, Band Director Tyler Smith, the Band Boosters and families are very proud of these hard-working kids and wish them the best at this prestigious event,” says booster Ellen Fuentes-Bevins. The event will take place at Pasadena City College, where only the top marching bands and color guards in their division will compete. The band has also competed and won in the highly respected Western Band Association (WBA) and Southern California Judges Association (SCJA) throughout this season, according to Ellen. “These wonderful, talented and hard-working high-school kids dedicate their weekday mornings, starting at 6:30 a.m., and their Monday and Thursday afternoons until 8 p.m. in rehearsal. They perform at halftime shows, supporting the back-to-back Southwestern League Champion Titan Football team at each Friday night football game. They also perform at pep rallies and graduation ceremonies every year. Recently, the Titan Thunder Regiment and Color Guard performed at the Lake Elsinore Unity Parade; immediately after the performance, they hurried to a tournament with just enough time to make it for their stage time. In February, they will host their 2nd annual Silent Auction, where they will give a special performance to showcase their highly acclaimed talent. Proceeds of that fundraiser go directly to the Band Boosters to help purchase the band’s rather large-dollar wish list items. Topping the list this year is a toy-hauler to store and haul the band’s equipment, props and uniforms. Details will be posted on the band website: www.ttrbands.com and in The Friday Flyer.
